Kinda Blue: The Google Pixel 4a has never been seen like this
Google only sells the Pixel 4a in one colour at the time of writing, which the company calls Just Black. However, that is not the whole story for the Pixel 4a. In June, two French retailers listed the model numbers GA02099-FR and GA02101-FR, which corresponded to Just Black and Blue versions of the Pixel 4a. Now, 9to5Google has discovered that Google did have another colour development, although Blue is not quite the colour we would use to describe it.
In our opinion, the colour looks like a half-way house between the Clearly White of the Pixel 3a and the Kinda Blue of the Pixel 2. According to 9to5Google, Google had uploaded these images to its eCommerce store, albeit under a different URL to where it stores those of the Just Black model.
It is unclear why Google cancelled this alternate version of the Pixel 4a, especially as it seemingly came so close to being launched. One reason may have been to prevent too much crossover with the Pixel 4a (5G), which Google will launch alongside the Pixel 5 on September 30. According to Jon Prosser, Google will release a black and white version of the Pixel 4a (5G), although the latter will not be available until October.
