Kia has updated some US EV customers about the upcoming access to Tesla Superchargers. The company announced last year that owners of newer EV6 and EV9 vehicles would be able to use over 16,500 North American Charging Standard (NACS) DC fast chargers in the country. This was initially scheduled to start on January 15th, but the company announced a postponement at the last minute; it did not indicate what had caused the delay.
Many EV6 and EV9 customers recently received notifications from Kia that their free NACS adapter was ready to ship. Owners who have successfully ordered their complimentary accessory were told that it would be delivered in around 14 days. In the same reported email communication from Kia Customer Service, owners were told that they would gain access to the network of NACS-compatible DC fast chargers “sometime in March 2025”. While no exact date has been provided, this new estimate is narrower than the earlier time frame of “the first quarter of 2025”.
Kia told these EV6 and EV9 drivers that they could expect another notification when the network became available via the Kia Access app. The free NACS adapter is currently only available for those who purchased a 2024 Kia EV6, a 2024 Kia EV9 or a 2025 Kia EV9 from September 4th 2024. However, other US owners will be able to purchase the official accessory via Kia dealers in the future. On top of this, the 2025 Kia EV6 and the latest version of the Kia EV9 will come with a NACS port as standard.
