Not every game needs polish to garner attention - sometimes a wild idea is enough. Granny Kick Neighbor, an indie action title with a deliberately janky charm, is free to claim on Steam right now. But that won’t last long. The developer has just confirmed plans to convert the game to a paid title in the near future, following a series of major updates.
Currently in early access, the game throws players into the chaos as either a weapon-wielding grandma or grandpa. The mission is to cause as much destruction as possible. From smashing household furniture to taking on zombies with oversized hammers and rocket launchers, the gameplay leans hard into silly physics and a whole lot of chaos. It's oddly fun—for a short while.
That said, what’s on offer today feels more like a prototype than a full game. Content is limited, repetition sets in fast, and even positive reviews admit the novelty wears off quickly. Still, this might change. As mentioned earlier, a recent announcement from the developer does outline plans for a "total conversion" that will add more destruction, new game modes, and a generally refined structure. And if you claim it now, you'll keep access to everything - even after the price tag goes up.
For what it is - a free destruction sandbox with quirky physics - it might be worth grabbing while it’s still free, especially if you enjoy testing early indie projects or just want something silly to mess around with. You can find it now on Steam under “Granny Kick Neighbor.”
