Tesla recently opened its first Superchargers that look like a conventional gas station with retail and coffee shops. It is projected to earn $740 million a year from Superchargers alone.

Tesla's Supercharger network would become a significant source of future revenue for the automaker, according to a new analysis.

Its Superchargers brought in $1.74 billion of revenue last year, but the net profit from charging could very well rise to $740 million in 2030, reports Bloomberg.

At the time, Tesla should have a network of more than 180,000 Superchargers globally, on which it would also allow other electric vehicles to charge at a higher price.

At the projected rate of 280 kWh dispensed per day, those Superchargers could rack up 18.4 TWh in 2030, at an average price of 40 cents per kWh. Even assuming a modest 10% profit margin on the whole operation, as per Elon Musk, Tesla is in for a significant windfall from charging fees alone.

This is why the company is trying to expand its Supercharger network as fast as it can to become the de facto EV charging standard.

It now makes prefabricated Supercharger piles and installs charging stations with them in just 4 days, or 50% faster than it did just two years ago.

The Supercharger revenue could be augmented by retail stores and coffee shops, like at conventional fuel stations or truck stops, where profit margins from retail operations are higher.

Tesla's first Supercharger places with gas station-style kWh price signs and coffee shops opened up not long ago, and it is currently building a showstopping one with a drive-in movie theater and 50s diner in LA.
