Humanoid robots have seen rapid advancements lately. Videos of androids are circulating online, showing them boxing, playing football or performing acrobatic kung fu moves – impressive and entertaining, no doubt. But so far, these displays offer little real-world value. That’s where the robot Model 02 from Figure stands out.
A recently shared clip on X by Figure founder Brett Adcock shows the 02 handling laundry. While it can’t yet operate the machine itself, it’s capable of loading it – offering a glimpse into how humanoid robots might assist with household chores in the future.
Admittedly, the Figure 02 takes its time loading the washing machine, but it does so with impressive precision. The robot, for instance, detects when pieces of laundry are hanging out of the drum and adjusts accordingly. Many users in the comments are impressed by the 02’s capabilities, particularly its fluid movements. Still, there’s a common call for more detailed video content that shows the full process.
While some viewers have questioned the video's authenticity due to the robot’s unusually smooth movements, Adcock has explained that this is thanks to Helix, the company’s in-house AI model. Figure plans to make Helix available to other robot manufacturers in the future, which could lead to a broader rollout of humanoid robots performing household tasks. Still, it remains uncertain whether these androids will be affordable for private users.
Although no price has been announced yet, Figure is positioning the 02 for industrial clients. Its cost is expected to be significantly higher than that of Unitree’s R1, which might appeal to private users – though more for entertainment than practical use.
