Humane has issued a recall of about 10,500 charging case accessories for the AI Pin. The company posted on X (via Engadget) that it had received a report of one of the cases overheating and melting while using a third-party USB-C cable and power source.
It said it was doing this "out of an abundance of caution" and has identified quality issues with battery cells supplied by a third-party vendor. Humane says it has disqualified the vendor.
The company assured users that the issue was not related to hardware design. Humane's AI Pin, Battery Boosters and Charge Pad do not have this issue since the disqualified vendor does not supply batteries for those products.
The company says replacements will be available in 3 to 6 months. Users will be able to choose between a replacement or a refund. Customers who bought the Charge Case accessory separately will receive $149 (€137.02 or £115.51). Those who use it as part of the AI Pin Complete System will receive a $129 (€118.63 or £100.02) refund.
