Huawei may only update 14 devices to EMUI 11 by March 2021
Huawei has started rolling out EMUI 11 to devices in China, but it is yet to announce upgrade plans for multiple regions as it did with EMUI 10.1. However, the Huawei Blog claims that Huawei has announced which devices will be receiving its latest OS, and surprisingly few have been included. We cannot find any related posts on the Huawei Community except for a thread that links to Huawei Blog, so we remain sceptical for the time being.
Huawei Blog does not state to which region this upgrade plan applies, but we will presume Western European since Huawei Blog is a German website. We would expect Huawei to vary which devices are eligible for EMUI 11 by region, as it has with EMUI 10.1. According to Huawei Blog, Huawei has confirmed that it will be upgrading the following devices to EMUI 11:
- Huawei P40
- Huawei P40 Pro
- Huawei P40 Pro+
- Huawei Mate 30 Pro
- Huawei Mate Xs
- Huawei P30
- Huawei P30 Pro
- Huawei P30 Pro New Edition
- Huawei Mate 20 X
- Huawei Mate 20 X 5G
- Huawei Mate 20 Pro
- Huawei Mate 20
- Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design
- Huawei nova 5T
Apparently, devices like the P40 Lite, Mate 30 and Mate 30 Lite will not receive EMUI 11, which seems odd. The same seemingly applies to the P40 Lite 5G, P40 Lite E, P30 Lite, P30 Lite New Edition and any P smart or Y series handsets. It is also worth noting that EMUI 11 is currently based on Android 10, not the newer Android 11.
Huawei Blog adds that the P40 series and the Mate 30 Pro will begin receiving EMUI 11 from December. By contrast, the remaining devices are said to be in line for the OS upgrade by March 2021. Hence, most of the devices on that may be stuck on EMUI 10.1 until early 2021, with no upgrade to Android 11 in sight, either.
