Not perfect, but it does have great speakers, a good display and plenty of power under the hood.

The HP Pavilion dv7-2273cl, like the recent Pavilion dv7 models we have reviewed, is one of the best desktop replacements on the market with a well-designed chassis and stunning 17.3-inch display. But unlike its more affordable $800 HP Pavilion dv7-3063cl and HP Pavilion dv7-2270us siblings, the $999 dv7-2273cl has a Intel CPU, Blu-ray drive, and discrete ATI graphics. A head turning desktop replacement, the HP Pavilion dv7-2273cl has a gorgeous display and packs a Blu-ray drive for under a grand.

When you're looking for a multimedia laptop and only have $1,000 to spend you usually have to sacrifice something. If you want a large screen, you will have to sacrifice speed or processing power to stay under budget and vice-versa. The HP Pavilion dv7-3183cl maybe the low end of Hewlett Packard's Pavilion line of entertainment laptops, but it has most of the same features as it higher priced competitors.

NVIDIA GeForce G 105M: Higher clocked 9300M GS and therefore a bit faster. Still manufactured in 65nm. Supports Hybrid-SLI with HybridPower and GeForceBoost (in conjunction with the right Nvidia chipset).
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

430M:
The Core i5-430M is a middle class dual core CPU that features only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Furthermore, VT-d, trusted Execution and AES features are missing in the 430M. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics with 500-733 MHz) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.2 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
68.25%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
