Not to be confused with the regular Omen 16, the Omen Transcend 16 is the next step up for the series complete with newer features and options that future Omen models will likely draw from. Know all the differences and changes before pulling the trigger.

The HP Omen Transcend 16 is an absolutely gorgeous and fast laptop for gamers and creators alike. It has a large touchpad, zoned RGB lighting (on this SKU), high-end hardware, and excellent cooling. It's also easy to perform certain DIY upgrades and repairs. The only real knock with this particular SKU is the price. At $2,199.99, it really needs to offer the mini LED display option for a no-brainer recommendation. Otherwise, see if you can catch it on sale—at $1,899.99, it's just $200 more than the baseline config on HP's website (with a slower Core i7-13700HX CPU and GeForce R TX 4060 GPU).

No one doubts that HP makes a sincere effort with its gaming laptops, a category it has played in for less than a decade, and the back-to-back improvements made this year to the Omen 16 line have all been worthwhile. The mini LED screen in particular upgrades the visuals considerably, and the sleeker body design undoubtedly gives the Transcend a style edge—but neither of these things improves performance. And, as you'd expect, the mini LED option is only available in the highest-end configurations. Altogether, the Omen Transcend 16 trailed in performance versus similarly priced laptops that were a bit thicker, not to mention one crucial even-thinner model. With that, we gave the HP Omen Transcend 16 the same score we gave its predecessor, and suggest the Alienware x16 R1 for a thin-and-light gaming laptop, or the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 for the best performance at 16 inches.

Overall, the HP OMEN Transcend 16 (16-u0000) is a good gaming laptop with some compromises. The all-aluminum machine looks fresh in white color the base is solid. Sadly, the lid feels spongy. The keyboard is good enough for both typing and gaming. The touchpad is also accurate. The port selection is modern with the two Thunderbolt 4s and we are happy to see a LAN connector in a sub-20mm laptop. The upgradability is alright, you can expand the memory via the two SODIMMs but the single SSD slot can raise a few eyebrows. Still, the bottom panel can be popped relatively easily which is good when you want to clean the internals. The CPU performance seems on point but the GPU one isn’t the best. This is due to the not-so-high graphics card clock during long gaming sessions.

There’s no denying that the OMEN Transcend 16 is a solid machine with a lot to offer. However, there are a few minor niggles. For instance, the lid could benefit from increased durability. It would also be convenient to have the MUX switch accessible through the OMEN Gaming Hub software instead of being located solely in the BIOS. Additionally, to provide more storage flexibility, an additional SSD slot would be highly beneficial. Finally, including an SD card slot would be greatly appreciated for productivity tasks. The first one would be from HP itself, namely the OMEN 16 xf0043AX Gaming Laptop and the second one would be from Acer, namely the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 Gaming Laptop. Both these laptops offer better gaming performance than the OMEN Transcend 16, all while being considerably lighter on the pocket. Overall, the HP OMEN Transcend 16 is a powerful, portable, and well-balanced laptop. However, it’s worth noting that it comes with a slightly higher price point, and in terms of value for money, it may not stand out as prominently as the competition.

The HP Omen Transcend 16 borrows heavily from the Transcend laptops of the past, yet manages to remain unquestionably unique. Everything about this machine is really well-balanced, making it one of the finest gaming laptops I can recommend this year. While it doesn’t feel sturdy, the weight distribution, revised heat vents, and the new hinge make it a good deal. A gaming laptop has to have good specifications and upgradeability, and the HP Omen Transcend 16 scores good marks in that territory too. The base variant gets an i7 HX chip, 16GB RAM, and RTX4050 graphics, and a 165hz refresh rate display. All this considered, our verdict after the HP Omen Transcend 16 review is that if you can live with the build quality, then it is a balanced beast of a machine with great performance across the price spectrum, starting at Rs 1,59,990.

At S$3,599 with two years warranty, the HP Omen Transcend 16 is a no-nonsense gaming laptop with good overall performance that would appeal to most avid gamers. If that is not enough to win you over, the laptop also comes bundled with HP Travel 18L IGR 15.6 Laptop Backpack, HyperX Gaming Headset and HP All-in-one printer (while stocks last) from the HP website. While its sleek white exterior may not get many eyeballs, the HP Omen Transcend 16 has abundant features and superb performance that would satisfy most hardcore gamers.

HP’s thinner, lighter gaming laptop brings a lot of entertaining things to the party, including a 165Hz screen and RTX 4060 GPU. It’s bright, light and fun to be around, but its battery life leaves a lot to be desired if it wants to be taken seriously.

Skinny but not lacking in substance, the HP Omen 16 Transcend is a joy to use. But you won't be able to run everything at the absolute max. The trade-off in performance for portability is a compelling one, and at a tempting price too.

With the Omen 16, buyers are spoiled for choice between the "normal" version and the so-called Transcend variant which, in many respects, hardly differ from one another. Read our review to discover how the 16-inch device fares against the competition.

HP’s knack for delivering a lucrative value seems to have faltered with the Omen Transcend 16. While we admire its thinned-down chassis and beautiful OLED screen, it's wholly outclassed in performance and merely meets expectations elsewhere. Also turning in subpar battery life, the Omen Transcend 16 even disappoints in its portable aspirations. Short of a big sale, we’ll pass. You can grab the Editors' Choice-award-winning Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 9 and have extra money for accessories and games leftover for the price of this HP model.

The upgradability is fine – two SODIMMs and one M.2 slot for Gen 4 NVMe drives. The I/O is good with its two Thunderbolt 4 ports and HDMI 2.1 and we like the fact that part of the ports and the power connector are placed on the back for better cable management on your desk. The optional 1600p display (BOE BOE0B49 (NE160QDM-NYD)) is a gam-packed unit with a 240Hz refresh rate, 99% sRGB coverage, and snappy pixel response times for an IPS unit. In addition, with the aid of our “Design and Gaming” profile, the color accuracy can be enhanced to an average dE value of just 0.9 which makes the display suitable for color-sensitive work and content creation. The HP OMEN Transcend 16 (u1000) is a capable not-so-big gaming laptop with a sizable cooling solution, adequate performance, up-to-date port selection, PWM-free display, and good battery life.
