The HP Envy 17.3-inch appears to simply be a bigger version of the new HP Envy 16-inch laptop, but with slightly downgraded specs. From my short time with the device, it’s a sleek and professional-looking device, appearing to be ideal for productivity and educational use. The large screen is great for having multiple tabs and windows open at once on-screen; however, its dimensions combined with the device’s hefty weight suggest the Envy 17.3 won’t work as well as the HP Envy 16 as a portable device. Nevertheless, anyone looking for a speedy laptop that will stay put should consider the Envy 17.3, while those who want the latest 12th-Generation Intel i9 processor and better portability should look at the HP Envy 16.

A large display with a high, 4K resolution in a simple case together with computing power from Intel's 12th generation, 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, and a dedicated GeForce GPU – the HP Envy 17-cr0079ng package sounds interesting. Find out in our Notebookcheck test whether the multimedia laptop is also convincing users in practice.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 96 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 Mobile: Mid range laptop graphics card based on the Turing architecture with raytracing features and 2,048 shaders (more than a RTX 2060) but only a small 64 Bit memory bus.

Intel Alder Lake-P:
i7-1260P: An upper mid-range Alder Lake family CPU featuring 4 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. This 28 W SoC is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops. Core i7-1260P's performance cores are Hyper-Threading-enabled for a total of 16 threads. This 12th Gen CPU runs at 1.5 GHz to 4.7 GHz and supports "Essentials" tier vPro features. Last but not the least, Core i7-1260P has a built-in 96 EU Iris Xe GPU, not unlike certain 11th Gen Tiger Lake-UP3 processors.
Intel Alder Lake-M:
i7-1255U: Alder Lake based mobile CPU with 2 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 12 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks from 1.2 to 4.7 GHz. The TDP is specified at 15 Watt.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
86.3%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
