For an entry-level laptop, the Compaq Presario CQ62-225nr ($499.99 list), available at Staples, has a lot going on. It offers a roomy 15.6-inch display, a full-size keyboard, and a modern dual-core processor. It also boasts a design that belies its entry-level status, since HP recently updated the design of its Pavilion and Envy laptops, and that makeover extends down to the bargain Compaq line. The Compaq CQ62 is one of the cheapest laptops you'll find at Staples, particularly if you exclude outdated models on clearance. The CQ62-225nr's Athlon II P320 processor is part of AMD's recently introduced 2010 Mainstream "Vision" platform, and the laptop provides fair performance for mainstream use along with fairly lengthy battery life. Most entry-level laptops harbor a deal-breaking flaw, but we can't find one on the CQ62-225nr, just a few minor annoyances. The lack of a Webcam will disappoint many users, and you also must make do without an HDMI port and a media card reader. The keys tend to squeak a bit, too.

Compaq's Presario CQ62-220US may be a very affordable laptop with a price of $500 but there are enough quirks to it that users would be better served by spending just a bit more. Performance is decent from the AMD processor but it still lags behind Intel's offerings. The lack of features such as HDMI, a webcam and media card reader are all significant and can be found on most other laptops just $50 to $100 more.

Simply Office. Simple mainstream notebooks with a 15.6 inch display and low entry prices are very popular. Plain design, glossy display and AMD hardware promise a good value for money ratio. Convincing office device or second choice?

If your needs extend only as far as browsing the web and your photo collection, the HP Compaq Presario CQ62-220SA is a cheap and cheerful laptop that does the job. It's well built and portable, with only a few dodgy niggles.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.
ATI Radeon HD 4250: Onboard graphics card (in the RS880M chipset) for AMD processors with Avivo HD support and technically a higher clocked HD 4200.

Intel Core i3:
330M:
The Core i3-330M is a slower clocked 350M and therefore also lacks the Turbo Boost feature and clocks with max. 2.13 GHz. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
AMD Athlon II:
P320: Entry level dual core processor for 13"+ laptops featuring a DDR3 memory controller.
Intel Celeron M: It is a Pentium M with halved level 2 Cache and limited on FSB 400. The characteristic of this processor is the speed, which is hardly slower than an equivalent Pentium M. However it can change the speed not dynamically like the Pentium M and therefore needs without load more current.
It is also available as Low Voltage Version with very small current consumption.
900: Single core processor based on the Penryn core but many advanced features are deactivated. Due to the missing Speedstep, the CPU may lead to a lower battery runtime.

2.5 kg:
2.6 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
70.86%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
