Google Gemini can now play and search for music on Spotify
Google has debuted a new extension for the Gemini AI chatbot, allowing it to search and play music from Spotify. Users must connect their Spotify accounts via the extension for the feature to work. You will also need a Spotify Premium subscription and an Android device.
There are a few limitations. For starters, this is limited to English-speaking users and requires Gemini Apps Activity to be turned on in the settings. The feature isn't available in Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or the Gemini app for Apple's iOS ecosystem.
Once connected, you can ask Gemini to look up or play songs from your account. You can ask for a specific album, song name, or playlist. You can search for new music by asking for similar artists, lyrics, genres, or moods. There are some limitations to this. For example - Gemini cannot create a new playlist for you or look up radio channels.
You can turn Spotify control on or off in the Gemini extension settings and unlink your account. If you have more than one music streaming service connected to Gemini, i.e., YouTube Music, you may need to specify which service you want to use.
