The global Oppo Pad Mini appears to come in just one configuration that limits its appeal for mobile gamers despite the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 inside and the bright 144Hz OLED screen.

Vietnamese retailer CellphoneS lists the upcoming global Oppo Pad Mini in a single configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The listing is marked "coming soon" and has no price. Oppo Thailand also lists the tablet's Matte Display Edition only as an 8GB/256GB model in Lavender Purple.

The CellphoneS listing for the Oppo Pad Mini shows only one configuration: 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage
Oppo Thailand's listing for the Oppo Pad Mini, with placeholder pricing, also shows that the only available configuration has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage

This is a narrower range of configurations than is available for the Chinese model, which comes with 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. Neither listing mentions the 12GB/256GB or 12GB/512GB variants.

The Pad Mini has no microSD card slot, so 256GB is all the storage users get. That is a limitation for a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 tablet aimed at gaming. Open-world titles such as Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves and Honkai: Star Rail each take up tens of gigabytes on Android, and they grow with every content update and voice pack. Users who keep several of these games installed alongside media and offline downloads may run out of space. The 8GB RAM ceiling also affects multitasking. Running a large game alongside other apps in split-screen makes it more likely that Android will close background apps, which then have to reload.

The single configuration matters less for buyers who mainly use the tablet for video and reading. The Pad Mini has an 8.8-inch 2,520 x 1,680 AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. In our review, its battery life was well ahead of the Apple iPad mini 7's. Other specs include an 8,000mAh battery with 67W wired charging and Wi-Fi-only connectivity.

Oppo Malaysia lists an October 22 availability date, and Oppo has not announced global pricing. In China, the 8GB/256GB model costs CNY 3,999 (~$597).
