HMD has a nice present for fans of its new flagship Nokia 8 in Germany. The country has been singled out to receive a special variant of the device first with 6 GB of RAM on board along with 128 GB of storage. It will be available on October 20 although only in the Polished Blue color with a price premium of €90 over the regular 4 GB/64 GB model. This brings its price up to €669, which is still competitive for a flagship Android device.
The Nokia 8 runs a Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is found in most current high-end Android devices. That said, most flagship devices running the 835 are pairing it with 4 GB of RAM, so the RAM upgrade helps the new Nokia 8 variant stand out from the crowd a little more as a result. The device is currently running a stock version of Android 7.1.1. Nougat out of the box with a planned upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo coming soon.
There is currently no word about when this beefed up version of the Nokia 8 will reach other markets. When it does, it will likely be competing against the next generation Google Pixel 2 models in addition to the competition from Samsung's Galaxy S8 and the One Plus 5. Of these, only the Google Pixel models will be running a stock version of Android, albeit the very latest. The Pixel 2s will, however, be substantially more expensive than the Nokia 8.
