Galaxy Note 7 explosions no barrier as Note 8 sets pre-order sales records
Samsung has announced that it has notched up a record number of pre-orders for its Galaxy Note 8 in the critical U.S. market. Although not revealing specific figures, the news of a U.S. pre-order record was bolstered by the company simultaneously announcing a new pre-order record for the Note 8 in its home market. According to the South Korean tech behemoth, it ratcheted up 395,000 pre-orders for the Note 8 on the opening day alone.
The news of record pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is all the more remarkable given that it comes on the back of the humiliating recall of the Galaxy Note 7 last year. Due to excessively tight engineering margins, the Note 7 was prone to catching fire and even exploding due to its battery short circuiting. Ironically, it appears that the extended absence of Samsung’s singular high-end stylus-based phablet may have resulted in pent up demand for its sequel. The company has also been pro-active in offering pre-order bonuses including the Gear 360 camera and a wireless fast charger in some markets that could have also helped stoke consumer interest in the device.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is still available for pre-order from US$929.99 and will start shipping to customers from September 15. The bonus items are still available for customers who purchase the device through to September 24.
