The indie game The Whispering Valley is now available to add for free to your own GOG game library. The game is a first-person adventure and, in addition to puzzle solving, also features horror elements.

Fans of films like M. Night Shyamalan's The Village may find exactly what they are looking for in this game. The developers at Studio Chien d'Or also rely on an oppressive atmosphere to tell a mysterious adventure story on PC. The Whispering Valley is a 2022 point-and-click adventure that can further be classified under the folk horror genre.

The plot takes players to the Canadian province of Quebec in 1896—specifically to the village of Sainte-Monique-Des-Monts, which is nestled in a remote valley and seemingly harbors a mysterious secret. The game deals thematically with guilt and depression, a fact that is pointed out right at the beginning of The Whispering Valley. Players step into the role of an investigator tasked with looking into the disappearance of the villagers and a sinister presence that terrifies the few remaining inhabitants through whispers.

It is a first-person point-and-click adventure in which puzzles must be solved and found items must be combined and used. Additionally, there are various dialogues with the inhabitants. A significant amount of time is spent walking around the village for exploration, meaning the game also features walking simulator elements.

The Whispering Valley is currently available for free and DRM-free on GOG

The giveaway on Good Old Games runs until April 28 at 2:59 PM CET. Until then, you can add the game to your GOG library for free and keep and play it permanently thereafter. Naturally, a GOG customer account and a willingness to consent to receive emails from GOG are required. While it does run on the Steam Deck and other handheld PCs (such as the Lenovo Legion Go S available on Amazon) with the help of launchers like Heroic, it is extremely clunky and essentially unplayable due to the mouse and keyboard controls.

On all other PCs, it should run well thanks to moderate specifications: you only need 4 GB of RAM, a GTX 670, and an i5-2400 at 3.10 GHz. The game is playable only in English and French; fittingly for the region, the voice acting is exclusively in French.
