Firefly ROC-RK3588S-PC: First Rockchip RK3588S-based single-board computer introduced for US$219
Firefly has announced the ROC-RK3588S-PC, the first single-board computer (SBC) powered by the Rockchip RK3588S. In short, the RK3588S is a scaled-down RK3588 with fewer features for more affordable SBCs. For reference, CNX Software explained the technical details between the RK3588 and RK3588S earlier this year. The RK3588S has the same CPU, GPU and NPU as the RK3588, though.
According to Firefly, the ROC-RK3588S-PC measures 90 x 60 mm and weighs around 50 g. Eventually, the SBC will be orderable with 4 GB to 32 GB of LPDDR4, LPDRR4x and LPDDR5 RAM, plus 16 GB to 128 GB of eMMC flash storage. Additionally, the ROC-RK3588S-PC has an M.2 2242 slot for adding a PCIe 2.0-compatible NVMe SSD. Moreover, the SBC has plenty of other I/O, as the screenshot below shows.
Currently, Firefly sells the ROC-RK3588S-PC for US$219 with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Alternatively, the company is offering an 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage configuration for US$299. However, the company has not confirmed how much 16 GB and 32 GB of RAM variants will cost, nor from when they will be available. All models should be compatible with plenty of operating systems, including Android 12.0, Debian 11 and Ubuntu Desktop, among others.
