For many, one of the pain points of the EV ownership experience is the charging duration. Compared to the traditional filling of the gas tank of fossil fuel-powered vehicles, replenishing an EV battery requires time, which may become significant when on longer journeys. However, Farasis Energy has unveiled a technology that allows batteries to go from 10 to 80 percent in just 8:55 minutes.
The Chinese company claims to have achieved 6C ultra-fast charging, meaning the battery can receive energy six times faster than it discharges. Farasis Energy’s VP of research and development, Jian Weiran, said the technology optimizes the battery design for 6C lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and 5C lithium ternary battery systems.
The new battery’s super pouch solution (SPS) improves heat dissipation areas on the 6C LFP and 5C ternary batteries by 4.8 and 4.0 times, respectively, allowing it to keep temperatures during fast-charging sessions below 50°C. The improved heat management will potentially help EV makers cut charging times.
Farasis Energy controls 0.48 percent of the Chinese battery market.
