When a company creates a product such as the Monster and then pitches it at an entry level price which compares with Ultrabooks and Alienware's M11x it is clear that there are more than a few high quality systems to compete with, or differentiate from. Eurocom do reasonably well on this front though with their textured lid and keyboard surround.

Eurocom is going for something here--a balance of performance, portability, and price--and although we like where this is going, the company just missed hitting the sweet spot yet. For starters, the $1605 price tag isn’t bad, but it doesn’t stop buyers in their tracks; they’ll likely shop around for potentially better deals on other systems.

Despite its quirky keyboard, temperamental touchpad and average screen, the 11.6-inch Eurocom Monster is a great gaming laptop if you’re after something that’s as portable as they come while remaining affordable. It offers excellent connectivity and is highly configurable, with specifications that really have no business in such a small chassis. Last but far from least, featuring a 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT650M across the range means that even demanding titles can be run at reasonable detail levels on the base spec.

If you're tired of lugging your 12-pound desktop replacement gaming laptop to and from LAN parties or just want a highly portable laptop that offers game-worthy performance, the Eurocom Monster 1.0 has you covered. It may not be the coolest looking laptop out there, and you won't get as much time between battery charges as you will with other 11-inch laptops, but when it comes to performance, it truly is a Monster and is our new Editors' Choice for ultraportable gaming laptops.

I love the Eurocom Monster. There’s no other way to say it. This isn’t to say that it’s a perfect system, because it isn’t close. The design is dull, the screen is miserable, and apparently the design team forgot that cooling is part of thermal design. It’s crazy that this system exists, and that’s why I love it.

The copper cooling heatsink keeps the internals racing along without throttling and makes true laptop gaming possible, and four hours of moderate use is quite acceptable for such a powerful notebook. And all in a trusty chassis weighing less than four pounds.

The Eurocom Monster proves that you can get an 11-inch notebook with serious gaming muscle. This pricey but very capable $1,444 mini rig can play the latest titles and go with you anywhere, and the built-in SSD adds an extra dose of speed. However, the keyboard feels netbookish, and we wish the display were brighter. Despite these drawbacks, the Monster is an impressive little powerhouse.

Overall, build quality is very good, which is a nice bonus when you consider that upgrading the Monster 4 does not void the warranty. That's right, you can take the bottom off and swap RAM, HDD, SSD, etc. without worry. The keyboard and touch pad certainly won't replace a good mechanical keyboard and mouse, but they are above average and worked fairly well in that I did not notice any weird quirks or issues. Finally, there is the complete lack of any kind of additional software. No bundled Norton, no nothing, this is a bare-bones Windows 10 installation, which is fantastic. Eurocom has done a great job when it comes to a small and very portable lightweight laptop.

Eurocom’s Monster 4 is a bit of an oddly-named notebook. It doesn’t look like a monster, after all. In fact, its looks are subdued, which I kind of appreciate. People will look at this notebook not even realizing that it could play the latest games at 1080p, and especially not 1440p (with some caveats) with an external monitor. It looks professional, despite being a gaming notebook.

Eurocom: Eurocom Corporation is a computer hardware manufacturing company founded in 1989 with offices in Canada and USA. Eurocom produces Desktop Replacement Notebooks and Mobile Workstations.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M: A mid-range GPU and the fastest GeForce GT as part of the 600M series
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M:
Second fastest high-end graphics card based on the Maxwell GM204 chip from the GeForce GTX 900M series.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
3720QM: An Ivy Bridge-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.6 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.6 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU running at 650-1250 MHz on a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
