EDC23 Saber: Nitecore shrinks flat EDC torch with display
Nitecore has introduced a particularly small flashlight, the EDC23 Saber, with USB-C charging capability within the EDC series (Everyday Carry). With a length of around 10 centimeters and a weight of 100 grams, it is even the smallest model in the series, but still has some of the advantages and disadvantages of EDCs.
One obvious disadvantage is that the integrated 1,500 mAh battery cannot be replaced. But the model does have the convenience of the higher EDC20 torches: an OLED display for status indication and power selection. The EDC23 Saber has also retained the slide switch for securing the flashlight so that it cannot be activated accidentally.
The torch's UHI-25 LEDs are cool white (6,500K, Nitecore promises slight deviations) and together provide a maximum of 2,500 lumens, which should be enough for a range of 280 meters. This is the turbo mode, which switches down after a while if the torch gets too hot, but is still available when the battery level is low. In 1,100 lumen mode, Nitecore promises that the flashlight can be kept on for long periods of time. The reason for this is that Nitecore distributes the heat over the entire body of the torch.
The battery life of the EDC23 is 1:30 hours in high mode at 1,100 lumens. There is also a mid mode (200 lumens, 3:45 hours), low mode (65 lumens, 11 hours) and ultra-low mode with 15 lumens and a battery life of 39 hours. A strobe mode is also available. Lastly, the flashlight is IP54 certified and thus protected against shocks.
The EDC23 is expected to be available at retailers soon, but Nitecore is yet to specifiy a price.
