Dynabook has managed to fit expandable RAM, expandable storage, multiple USB ports, and an Intel Core U-series CPU all in a chassis weighing just 870 g total. So, what's the catch? The devil is in the details.

Dynabook has equipped the Portégé X30L with Intel’s current Alder Lake processor. The magnesium case is extremely light at around 900 grams, which makes the business notebook an extremely mobile companion. However, the performance of the new processor falls short of expectations.

While most of us in this office work from laptops, some Apple, some HP, some Lenovo etc., we were astonished at just how much easier this Dynabook was to carry around. We’d pop over to a coffee shop and feel like we weren’t even bringing anything with us, it was so light. Yet, all that weight was gone without a significant drop in power. We’d recommend considering this laptop if you often work on the go, or if you are looking for something to easily carry around as a top-end portable working machine.

The Dynabook Portégé X30L, as tested, was a pretty solid little portable laptop, albeit with mediocre battery life. It does perform well though, and if you can get by with limited battery power, it’s not a bad choice to consider.

The Portégé X30L-K is an attractive package with a lot to offer. It has excellent battery life and good performance, plus a lot of ports. That means you can connect to things like TVs, wired networks, USB hubs and other devices without having to lug around a ton of dongles and adapters. While such things won’t matter much for work-at-home types, for those who have to travel to customer offices, run presentations or debug problems, having extras like the gigabit ethernet could make all the difference.

Dynabook:
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
Intel Iris Xe G7 80EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G7 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 80 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.
Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 96 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.

Intel Comet Lake:
i5-10210U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced in 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.6 and 4.2 GHz (all 4 cores 3.9 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports LPDDR4-2933 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default). Compared to the faster i5-10510U, the level 3 cache was reduced from 8 to 6 MB.
Intel Alder Lake-P:
i5-1240P: A mid-range 28 W Alder Lake family CPU featuring 4 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. This SoC is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops. The i5's performance cores are Hyper-Threading-enabled for a total of 16 threads. Core i5-1240P runs at 1.2 GHz to 4.4 GHz; it has a built-in 80 EU Iris Xe GPU and supports "Essentials" tier vPro features.
i7-1260P: An upper mid-range Alder Lake family CPU featuring 4 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. This 28 W SoC is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops. Core i7-1260P's performance cores are Hyper-Threading-enabled for a total of 16 threads. This 12th Gen CPU runs at 1.5 GHz to 4.7 GHz and supports "Essentials" tier vPro features. Last but not the least, Core i7-1260P has a built-in 96 EU Iris Xe GPU, not unlike certain 11th Gen Tiger Lake-UP3 processors.
Intel Tiger Lake:
i7-1165G7: An upper mid-range, quad-core processor of Tiger Lake product family. The i7 is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops; it is manufactured on Intel's third-gen 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin. The CPU cores run at 2.8 GHz (base clock speed @ 28 W TDP) to 4.7 GHz (single-core Boost frequency). This i7 features the 96 EU Intel Iris Xe G7 iGPU; it was the second-fastest CPU of TGL-UP3 line-up when Intel initially launched the series in 2020.
