DigiPort: An HDMI stick and mini PC in one, based on the Raspberry Pi
Compact computer systems in the form of an HDMI stick are quite popular, especially as inexpensive players for televisions. In this context, there are also stick PCs that enable the use of a desktop operating system and can also be used for productivity purposes, or at least support the installation of your own software. The DigiPort is one such device, which is based on the Raspberry Pi. Specifically, a Raspberry Pi Module 4 is installed, which has a BCM2711 SoC with four 1.5 GHz Cortex A72 cores. Depending on the model selected, the RAM measures 1, 2, 4 or 8 GB, while the eMMC storage is either not available or is 0, 8, 16 or 32 GB in size.
The DigiPort can simply be plugged into a TV via a HDMI connection, whereby the power supply must be provided via a USB port. There are also two USB 2.0 ports for connecting a keyboard and mouse, but input devices can also be easily connected via Bluetooth. The model comes with a microSD memory card slot, which makes it easy to expand the storage or install an operating system. An IR blaster is also on board, which allows TVs, for example, to be controlled directly with the device.
Unsurprisingly, various operating systems are supported, such as Raspberry Pi OS, Android and various Linux distributions. Information on the exact dimensions of the stick PC is not yet available, but as part of the Kickstarter campaign, the model is expected to be delivered from December 2024 to supporters who have contributed at least 62€. As always with crowdfunding companies, this comes with a certain degree of risk.
