Dell: XPS 13 with Kaby Lake CPUs announced in Japan (Update: International Release announced)
What once was started as a brand for big and heavy Multimedia-notebooks now has developed into one of the most significant brands in the notebook market. Of course we are talking about the Dell XPS brand. The rise of the brand is mostly because of the XPS 13, the Ultrabook that has started a trend of small-display bezels in the notebook-space, which is what other manufacturers now copy. Somehow the XPS 13 even managed to end the design-dominance of the Macbook Air in the Ultrabook-segment, it established itself as the new gold-standard and "the one to beat".
Now, Dell has announced the newest version of the Ultrabook. Although, maybe different then one would expect, not with a big show. They rather announced it relatively quiet: For now, the newest version is only announced for the Japanese market. It shouldn´t take long however until its available in the US as well, a few days ago it already briefly surfaced on the Dell US site.
To the hardware itself: Dell leaves the basic design of the XPS as it is now. The chassis of the Skylake and Broadwell XPS 13 is still used without any big, visible changes. This means that the new XPS 13 is a small update, the new features are:
- CPUs: Core i5-7200U / i7-7500U (7. Generation Core i, Kaby Lake)
- GPU: Intel HD 620
- WLAN: KillerWireless 1535 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi
- 60 Wh battery (instead of 56 Wh)
- New color: Rose-Gold
The remaining specification seem to be identical with the predecessor. Different from this one however, there won´t be a version with Iris GPUs from the get go, because Intel has not announced the correspondent CPUs yet.
The Dell XPS 13 with Kaby Lake will be available in Japan starting in October, its up for preorder there now. When it will be available in the US is uncertain as of now.
Update, 15.09.2016: Dell announced the international release today. The Dell XPS 13 with Kaby Lake will be available starting on October the 4th in the US, prices start at 799 Dollars, just like the predecessor.
