Dell Vostro 14-3459
The Dell Vostro 14-3459 is made for business and centres around productivity. This productivity is enhanced by a portable setup with the entire machine weighing around 1.94 kg. Built to be durable, the Dell Vostro 14-3459 comes in black with the entire device textured to reduce scuffs. The Dell Vostro 14-3459 comes with a plethora of operating system options ranging from Ubuntu Linux 14.04 SP1 to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. To match the software variety, there are several hardware configurations with the Intel Core i7-6500 quad-core processor, 8 GB DDR3L 1600MHz, and a AMD Radeon R5 with 2 GB DDR3 VRAM being top of the range. There are two options for storage on the Dell Vostro 14-3459; a 1 TB HDD for capacity or a 256 GB SSD for speed. Display on the laptop is a 14 inch HD anti-glare panel with LED-backlit technology. Brightness levels are good to match outdoor usage and color rendition is eye pleasing. The Dell Vostro 14-3459 comes with a DVD drive, a full-sized keyboard, a multi-touch gesture touchpad, USB ports, a VGA out and an HDMI out. Archive.org versionYou can get similar or better hardware at a lower price – that’s for sure – but the Dell Vostro 14 5471 might be a good investment thanks to the many features it has. It’s a step up from low-budget notebooks, which is easy to spot. The first thing that catches the eye is the all-metal chassis. Build quality is usually where inexpensive laptops cut cost but the Vostro 14 5471 is not the case.

With the Vostro series, Dell primarily targets small businesses that want to offer a good compromise between performance and cost. Our 14-inch Vostro 5490 even has a dedicated graphics card, but the fan control is not well developed.

Dell: Dell is a U.S. manufacturer (based in Texas) of computer hardware founded in 1984 and is one of the largest international manufacturers in terms of both market share and notebook models. Its product line includes desktops, notebooks, storage systems, monitors, servers, printers, consumer electronics and peripherals. Dell offers laptops that are suitable for various applications, such as business laptops, gaming laptops, ultra portables and workstations. Dell's business laptops from the Latitude and Precision series are an option for professional users and businesses.
In 2023, Dell had an approximate 17% market share of global PC sales, ranking #3 after Lenovo and HP.
For gaming enthusiasts, Dell's Alienware brand is for gaming notebooks.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics 520: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on some Skylake CPU models (15 W ULV series).
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
AMD Radeon 530: Entry class dedicated graphics card with 320 or 384 shaders (depending on the used chip) and DDR3 or GDDR5 graphics memory (both with a 64 Bit bus). Both chips are used for a few years, e.g. even starting with the Radeon 8590M (28nm GCN).
NVIDIA GeForce MX250: Successor of the MX150 and still based on the same Pascal GP108 chip (similar to the desktop GT 1030) but with higher clock speeds. Available in two versions, a normal 25 Watt version and a low power version with 10 Watt TDP and reduced performance. The 25 Watt version e.g. offers a 21% higher boost clock than the old MX150 leading to a 5% performance gain.

6200U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
i5-8265U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.
Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:
i5-8250U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,100 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
i5-8550U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,150 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
Intel Comet Lake:
i7-10510U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced on 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.8 and 4.9 GHz (all 4 cores 4.3 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports DDR4-2666 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default).

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
