Dell Precision 5550 & 5750: First no-bezel 17 inch workstation from Dell
The Dell Precision 5000 series gains a new member: In addition to the existing 15 inch model, Dell releases a 17 inch model for the first time. Of course, the Dell Precision 5550 and the Dell Precision 5750 are reflecting what is happening over at the Dell XPS side – both are the workstation brothers of the new Dell XPS 15 9500 and Dell XPS 17 9700.
Thus, for the first time in its existence, Dell is redesigning the Dell Precision 5550. Both it and the Dell Precision 5750 feature an almost bezel-less design and screens in the long forgotten 16:10 aspect ratio, eliminating the "chin-bezel" beneath the screen that was present on the older Dell Precision 5540. Other notable design-changes include a larger touchpad as well as speakers beside the keyboard and a much thinner thinner profile.

No more legacy ports for the Dell Precision 5550
While that change will probably attract new customers to the Dell Precision 5000 series, the opposite is probably true for the changes to the port section: The new models drop legacy ports like USB A or HDMI in favor of a simpler array of two Thunderbolt 3 ports and a single USB C one (four Thunderbolt 3 on the Precision 7750. At least a full-size SD-card slot did survive the purge, but the change will probably still be a controversial one.
Both new Dell Precision 5000 models are based on Intel Comet Lake H with Core i9 and Xeon options available. They have two RAM slots (up to 64 GB DDR4, ECC-RAM for the Xeons) and two M.2 2280 SSD bays (offering RAID). The main difference aside from size between the two is the GPU selection: While the Dell Precision 5550 maxes out at the Quadro T2000, the Dell Precision 5750 offers the faster Quadro RTX 3000.
Both screen options for the Precision 5550 and 5750 respectively have a brightness value of 500 cd/m², no matter if a WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) or 4K-UHD (3,840 x 2,400) screen is selected. The powerful components are backed up by a 97 Wh battery in both models.
Dell Precision 5550 & 5750 pricing & availability
The Dell Precision 5550 will cost at least $1,999, while the base price of the Dell Precision 5750 sits at $2,399. The smaller model will be available on May 28, while the bigger one will not start shipping till the 6th of June.
