89.2% Dell Latitude 5420 Rugged (i7-8650U, AMD RX 540) Laptop Review | Notebookcheck
Rugged Notebooks aren't known for their svelte profiles, but the Dell Latitude 5420 Rugged tries to trim things down while maintaining the durability of the Latitude Rugged line. While there are some sacrifices compared to other rugged laptops, the Latitude 5420 Rugged is an overall convincing machine.

90% Dell Latitude 5430 Rugged Laptop review
Source: Techradar English
The Dell Latitude 5430 stands out among other rugged laptops due to its all black design and carbon fiber lid. The rigid handle makes it easy to take with you while out in the field but also serves as a palm rest when using the device’s touchpad. The inclusion of an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor provides more than enough power for most tasks while the optional Nvidia T500 T500 discrete graphics option allows you to tackle even more demanding workloads. There are plenty of ports on either side as well as on the back and the Latitude 5430 can also be equipped with additional ones on the right side and at its rear. If your work requires a rugged laptop but you’ve been put off by the all metal designs of other devices, the Latitude 5430 could be the perfect choice.

The Dell Latitude 5430 is a solid choice among its rugged contemporaries. The semi-rugged laptop performs well and has plenty of ports and customization options. While it is expensive (as all rugged laptops are), its portability and performance more than makeup for its hefty price tag. For enthusiasts, first responders, and the like, the Dell Latitude 5430 is a solid choice. Just remember that it's not a fully rugged machine, so there are limits to how much abuse it can take.

Dell’s Latitude 5430 Rugged – Redefining the Extremes of Mobile Computing
Source: Techspot English
Rugged laptops and tablets have long been a somewhat rarified sector, populated mostly by specialty vendors and solutions, like Panasonic, Getac, Durabook and DT Research. Dell entered the rugged solution market in 2008 with its ATG series, shifting to the Latitude Rugged designation about six years later. Until Acer entered the space in 2020 with its Enduro line, Dell was the only major laptop vendor bringing ruggedized solutions to market. What has been particularly interesting about Dell’s approach is how it has enlivened and enhanced its rugged solutions with technologies and features initially developed for commercial client products, including Latitude and XPS laptops. That has enabled the company to create solutions that are often more sophisticated than those competitors offer, and better attuned to the needs of end users, commercial customers and specific industries. The Rugged Latitude line also underscores Dell’s strategic intention to help customers succeed in what has increasingly become a “Do-Anything-From-Anywhere World.”

Dell: Dell is a U.S. manufacturer (based in Texas) of computer hardware founded in 1984 and is one of the largest international manufacturers in terms of both market share and notebook models. Its product line includes desktops, notebooks, storage systems, monitors, servers, printers, consumer electronics and peripherals. Dell offers laptops that are suitable for various applications, such as business laptops, gaming laptops, ultra portables and workstations. Dell's business laptops from the Latitude and Precision series are an option for professional users and businesses.

In 2023, Dell had an approximate 17% market share of global PC sales, ranking #3 after Lenovo and HP.

For gaming enthusiasts, Dell's Alienware brand is for gaming notebooks.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

AMD Radeon RX 540: Polaris based mid-range graphics card with 512 shaders (8 compute units) and a maximum clock speed of 1,219 MHz (according to AMD). Uses the new Polaris 12 chip like the faster Radeon RX 550 (not verified but highly likely) with the slightly improved 14nm FinFET process.

Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 96 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.

Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:

i7-8650U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.9 and 4.2 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,150 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.

Intel Tiger Lake:

i7-1185G7: Tiger Lake based low power quad-core processor for thin and light laptops. The four cores clock around 3 - 4.8 GHz. Produced on the second-gen 10 nm Intel process.

14.00:

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

1.97 kg:

2.83 kg:

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.

86.4%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
