Cybertruck fender bender would be surprisingly cheap to fix

Not only has Tesla positioned the Cybertruck as a rugged workhorse that is surprisingly easy to service, but it obviously wants to keep it surprisingly cheap to maintain, too. As far as parts are concerned, there is nothing exorbitant in Tesla's pricing.

In a recent interview, Tesla's Head of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy demonstrated how easy it is to replace the Cybertruck's HEPA filter. It takes a few seconds to pull the frunk's liner panel with the Cybertruck logo, unclip the HEPA filter, and put a new one in.

He mentioned that Tesla is deliberately trying to make the Cybertruck as serviceable as possible on a vehicle that is full of cutting edge technologies like 48V and steer-by-wire systems, or custom stainless steel mix for a body. It seems that Tesla's serviceability concept for the Cybertruck transfers over to its replacement parts, too.

Tesla fender, wiper, and tire prices

Tesla's Cybertruck parts catalog prices for service centers show that the stainless steel fender costs $550 as a replacement part, while the giant windshield and its 4-foot wiper are $1,900 and $165, respectively. The wiper blade itself is $75, while the reinforced glass windows are no more than $260.

The whole front steer-by-wire actuator is $3300, while the All-Terrain Goodyear Wrangler Territory RT tires on 35-inch wheels are $470 apiece. These prices are all rather reasonable and they seem to be somewhat of a trend for Tesla.

What about the gigacast sections of the Cybertruck? One hint comes from Tesla's reaction to the autoinsurers' uproar over repairability, for instance, as this is one of the reasons that rental car companies cite for ditching its cars from their fleet. According to the insurer consultants from Thatcham, Tesla has now "thought about deformation in low- to medium-severity impacts and how to repair it," and if all else fails it prices the rear gigacast section of the Model Y for service centers at £752.50, again a price that seems rather fair.

It remains to be seen how autoinsurers will react to the Cybertruck and future incidents with Tesla's stainless steel electric pickup. At least repair shops won't have to coat and paint anything after a fender bender.
