Coolpad Cool 1

Chinese manufacturers seem to be producing smartphones at an incredibly rapid pace, so much so that they appear to be running out of ideas for naming their products. Whether or not this is true of Coolpad’s latest offering, the (simply called) Cool 1 nevertheless deserves more than just a cursory review. At first glance, this is a well-made, good looking smartphone as it comes with a solid metal back and a glass panel on the front, putting it on the same standards as a premium designed phone. It certainly achieves a bezel-less design. Its dimensions measure 152.00 x 74.80 x 8.20mm and it weighs 173g. The two colour variants available are the very minimal gold, and silver. This is also a 5.5-inch form factor smartphone and it features a full HD IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 401 PPI. Text and images appear sharp and clear. What powers this smartphone is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor with 3GB of RAM. Watching videos, scrolling through e-mails and browsing through numerous social media apps is snappy and responsive. It will also excel at gaming. Not those selected graphic-hungry games, but perhaps the rest will do just fine. On the negative side, it comes with 32GB of internal storage with no option of expansion. The amount of storage is arguably insufficient for an average user. This is perhaps a manifest drawback for this smartphone in comparison with its rivals.

On the flipside, it features a dual camera module for optics, something that is currently only offered in expensive flagships. This feature is the key contrast between the Cool 1 and the LeEco 2 (which the former largely resembles). The rear camera consists of dual 13MP lenses with an f/2.0 aperture each, phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and dual-LED flash. The front camera, on the other hand, is an 8MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture. A fingerprint sensor fitted just below the rear camera allows gestures to be easily customized for unlocking purposes and ID recognition, thus improving security and convenience. Another notable feature on this smartphone is the large 4000mAh non-removable battery, which affords users with longer productivity on this device. Coolpad ships this smartphone in a single-SIM format. Again, this may hold back users as dual-SIM modes are common in most of its competitors. There is also the lack of an FM radio, which, in essence, does not place the Cool 1 at any disadvantage. With the low price factor and dual camera setup, this smartphone is definitely worth checking out. If there is any qualm, Coolpad could at least put in more ingenuity to coin a name worthy of its substance.

Coolpad Cool 1 Dual with Dual camera – In-Depth Review
Source: Tech Magnifier English
Coolpad Cool 1 is a decent offering from Coolpad and LeEco, however not the best. Camera, display and battery life are amongst the good features of the smartphone but design, type-c port, Loud-speaker (no earphones are provided inside the box) and UI could play a negative role to the overall sale of the smartphone. Also, there is no expandable storage option available in Cool 1. However, in the same price range, you have better smartphones available in the market such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Moto G4 Plus and Honor 6X that offer fantastic performance and specifications.

70% Coolpad Cool 1 review: Dual-camera, big battery work in its favour

Coolpad Cool 1 is solid buy at Rs 13,999 with the capability to outperform even more expensive devices. The camera and the battery are the biggest highlights of the device, with the crisp display coming in a close third. While I’m not a fan of the UI, if you’re looking for something different on a budget, the Cool 1 will be on my recommendation list.

Coolpad Cool 1 Dual Review
Source: Mobygyaan English
Keeping everything into the consideration, Coolpad Cool 1 Dual has the best in class performance, a strong metal chassis. Its dual camera is better than most of its current competitors out there. The bokeh effect gives you DSLR-like experience, not to mention it has a dedicated Monochrome camera. The camera is the most satisfying for this price. The battery life is another aspect to look for. It gives you ample time to stay up without charging. In regards to all the above aspects, this is the best bargain if you are planning to buy a smartphone under ₹15,000.

Except for the heating issues, we think that the Cool 1 is one of the best smartphones that Coolpad has ever launched. The design is refreshing and the change is actually welcome considering from there are similar-looking budget phones. The dual-camera setup works great and the battery can easily last a full day. All of these make the Cool 1 a value-for-money device at a price tag of Rs 13,999. As for alternatives, there's Motorola Moto G4 Plus and Lenovo K6 Note are great as well.

The Coolpad Cool 1 is officially available in India for Rs 13,999 for both the variants. The 4GB RAM model will only be available online via Amazon India from 5 January while the 3GB RAM model will only be available offline. The Cool 1 Dual offers good performance for its price. It’s built well, and it has a sharp display, very good battery life plus sufficient power for most tasks. The lack of expandable storage is our only major gripe here as 32GB might not be enough a year down the line. Given a choice, you should buy this phone online as you get more RAM at the same price.

Coolpad Cool1 Review: The Coolio One!
Source: Tech PP English
The Coolpad Cool1 nails it with a commendable battery life, good (if predictable) build, withstands heavy usage and gaming, and comes with above average cameras and software that has minor issues (that can be fixed, we hope). At Rs 13,999, it may cost a little more than the Redmi Note 3, which is the most sought after choice these days at this price, but if the extra bucks mean we get a very good camera with some cool options, there is one word we have – COOLIO! Regardless of the sales numbers, Cool 1 stands out in the crowd and that itself is refreshing to see as this would prompt the competition to bring such offerings.

Coolpad Cool Play 6 review: Great overall performance, dual-cameras
Source: The Indian Express English
Coolpad Cool Pay 6 is a pretty great smartphone when you look at the overall performance. Given the price-point, the device won’t disappoint people who’re into smartphone gaming and dual rear cameras are an added advantage. However, the sub-15k segment is growing rapidly and there’s a ton of other options to choose from as well.

The Coolpad Play 6 is a decent smartphone, but so many dual-camera phones available in the budget range, it has a tough hill to climb. The camera doesn't bring about much improvement over last year's Coolpad Cool 1, and unfortunately competitors have surpassed this already. 6GB RAM and the Snapdragon 653 chipset is still difficult to ignore though.

From the looks of it, the Coolpad Cool Play 6 is a performance-focused device. The Snapdragon 653 SoC along with 6GB of RAM can pretty much brute force its way through anything you throw at it. Also, there is more internal storage than what you get with other smartphones at this price. With Journey UI, Coolpad has brought its phones closer to the stock Android experience than before. However, camera performance is strictly average and the wait to charge the battery can be annoying.

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 offers premium design packaged, a considerable battery life and a good dual rear camera - probably one of the best bokeh effects we have seen for smartphones in this price segment. But, the app crashes and heating problems are major issues that one cannot ignore and therefore we cannot recommend the device fully. If you are looking for a smartphone in Rs 14,000 - Rs 16,000 bracket, the Nokia 6 or Moto G5 Plus could perhaps be better alternatives.

60% Coolpad Cool 3 Plus Review
Source: NDTV Gadgets English
Coolpad has tried to put together a decent low-cost package, and at Rs. 6,499, the higher-end variant of this phone is one of only a few options in the market which has 3GB of RAM and a fingerprint sensor. However, the overall system, camera, and battery performance leaves a lot to be desired. Plus, with just 32GB of onboard storage, we expected the phone to have a dedicated microSD card slot instead of having to compromise on using two SIM cards.

At Rs 5,999 for 2GB/16GB and Rs 6,499 for 3GB/32GB, the Coolpad Cool 3 Plus is an average device and there are some key issues with photography and slow charging speed. However, we must understand that it is a budget smartphone and most smartphones in this price range do have problems with photography or charging. Other budget alternatives such as the Realme C2 and Nokia 2.2, might be a better option for users who want a budget smartphone that delivers on these parameters as well.

For the price it holds, the Cool 3 Plus starts at Rs 5,999 for its base variant i.e. 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage and Rs 6,499 for its 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage variant which is highly affordable. If you have an extremely tight budget and want an entry-level Android smartphone, consider the Coolpad Cool 3 Plus, it competes with the likes of Realme C2 and Redmi 7A in terms of pricing. If you can extend your budget slightly, the Realme C2 is an ideal alternative.

76% Coolpad Cool 3 Plus Review: Cooler Than the Rest?
Source: Tech PP English
The major stand-out feature of the Coolpad Cool 3 Plus is the fact that it offers a fingerprint scanner at a price point which no other brand is doing at the moment. The design and display are both good and add a modern touch, and while cameras seem promising in daylight, that’s where the positives end. It’s the not phone to get for performance, battery or low-light photography, and those are exactly the areas where the Realme C2 takes the lead. It’s still not a bad deal for Rs. 5,999 though.
