Most PC enthusiasts are probably well aware of the fact that prices for various hardware components have skyrocketed over the past few years. In addition to sinfully expensive graphics cards, which were mostly unavailable due to the infamous cryptomining boom, some sought-after processors and RAM modules have also seen their prices rise to rather unaffordable levels. However, the RAM market in particular could experience a quick reversal of this price trend in the second half of 2022.
The well-known market research company TrendForce now expects that consumer prices for RAM modules will drop by 13 to 18 percent in the current third quarter of 2022. Previously, the original forecast for RAM prices indicated a much slower price drop of 8 to 13 percent. On top of that, RAM prices are expected to decline even further during the upcoming fourth quarter of 2022, which is when TrendForce projects an additional drop of 3 to 8 percent.
This revised 2022 price forecast for RAM modules should be great news for all patient gamers who can still wait a bit longer for their next hardware upgrade. However, the aforementioned report published by TrendForce primarily refers to DDR3 and DDR4 RAM modules, as the established DDR3 RAM was sold at a 60% premium in 2021 in relation to its all-time lowest price. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that new DDR5 RAM modules will remain a bit more stable in price than the widespread previous generations of PC memory.
