In recent years, companies have returned to taking more risks when it comes to laptop design. For example, Asus continues to make the Zenbook Duo with two OLED displays and a detachable keyboard, which it recently upgraded to Intel Arrow Lake processors (curr. $1,699.99 on Amazon). While Lenovo has its own alternative to the Zenbook Duo, it also unveiled the more ambitious ThinkBook Codename Flip at MWC 2025 sporting a foldable OLED panel.
Now, Compal has introduced the Infinite, a concept laptop that relies upon a rollable OLED panel. As the photos below show, this concept can be expanded to the left or right as needed. The result is that the Compal Infinite can provide an 18-inch ultra-wide canvas to work while maintaining the form factor of a conventional 14-inch laptop when stowed away.
The rollout mechanism should eliminate a display crease too, which is common among hinged foldable devices. Additionally, Compal has included a series of LEDs on the Infinite's lid for notification purposes. By contrast, the laptop's keyboard deck looks like any more 14-inch laptop with a large trackpad and a 6-row chiclet-style keyboard. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether the Compal Infinite will ever move past the concept stage for the time being.
