Compal Electronics has unveiled the Hybrid AIO – a new all-in-one concept PC. As a contract manufacturer, the Taiwanese company is unlikely to release this product themselves. However, there is a possibility that other companies work with Compal to further develop this concept and turn it into an actual product.
The Hybrid AIO is designed to potentially replace several devices. In the images provided, the Hybrid AIO initially appears as a convertible with a detachable keyboard, similar to numerous 2-in-1 devices currently available on the market, such as the Microsoft Surface Pro (starting at around $880 on Amazon). Removing the keyboard transforms the Hybrid AIO from a laptop into a tablet.
The images also show the tablet unit being mounted onto a monitor. It is unclear whether the tablet would function as a second screen for an existing system in this use case. However, the tablet will most likely provide the computing power in this configuration as well, with the monitor acting as an additional display for the system. This speculation is supported by an image suggesting that the keyboard remains usable with the system in desktop mode. The presence of a stylus in one of the images indicates the Hybrid AIO could also serve as a drawing tablet. There isn’t any information on specifications right now, though the Hybrid AIO appears to be using Windows and features several USB ports.
