Chuk Box: Modular camping box that turns into an outdoor kitchen

Chuk is a modern take on the traditional camping chuck box, combining storage, work surfaces and cooking space in a stackable aluminum box. Originally developed as the Brio Kitchen Box, the project raised more than $220,000 via Kickstarter in 2024 before being renamed Chuk. Production units began reaching backers in 2025, following extensive redesign work intended to address shortcomings in the early prototype.

The concept is designed around portability and quick deployment. Its legs fold into the recessed base for transport, allowing multiple boxes to stack neatly, then spring out to raise the working surface to between 32 and 34 inches. Chuk claims that setup takes 16 seconds, although the practical time will depend on how much equipment needs arranging. The lid opens up to a portable dual-burner stove, while the front door folds down to create another work surface.

Storage is divided between three adjustable levels: a shallow shelf, tray and deeper drawer. These can accommodate cookware, utensils, plates, bowls and gas canisters, while individual boxes can also be arranged alongside one another to create larger cooking stations. Optional accessories include a cutting board, utensil organizer, lantern hanger and storage hooks. The modular approach is useful for different camp configurations, although keeping multiple cooking stations close together could limit workspace around each cook.

The Chuk Box is built from aluminum and weighs 32 pounds (14.5 kg) empty. Retractable handles keep the exterior relatively compact for transport, while the enclosure is designed to resist rain and dust. However, portability comes at a substantial price: the empty box costs $665, with accessories adding between $12 and $219. The production model is currently sold out (at the time of writing), with Chuk expecting inventory to return within several weeks.
