In Besiege, you take on the role of a medieval engineer, building custom war machines to tackle everything from fortress assaults to wiping out entire armies. The core of the game lies in its modular building system, offering more than 70 parts to design and fine-tune your creations across 55 campaign missions. The mix of inventive objectives and realistic physics creates a rewarding loop of trial, error and eventual success. As a result, PC Gamer awarded the game a score of 85 out of 100, though they noted the lack of proper tutorials and occasionally frustrating level design.
Beyond its single-player campaign, Besiege also features a multiplayer mode where players can team up to build complex machines or face off in creative building challenges. A robust editor lets you design custom missions and share them with the community through built-in mod support. Thanks to the Steam Workshop, you can explore over 200,000 player-made creations – from simple catapults to airborne fortresses.
Besiege was developed by British indie studio Spiderling Studios and launched in February 2020. Since its release, it has earned over 45,000 user reviews on Steam, with an impressive 95% rating it positively. While there’s no official Metascore on Metacritic, the User Score stands at a solid 7.0.
