Caribbean Crashers, developed by Bloxhill and released in May 2024, borrows its core mechanics from the popular mobile hit Angry Birds – but with a pirate twist. Instead of launching birds, you control a colorful pirate ship, firing cannons at enemy vessels. The goal is to sink as many ships as possible using the fewest shots, all while collecting piles of loot along the way.
The controls are easy to pick up: pull back, aim and fire – then hope you’ve nailed the angle. Wind, distance and obstacles all play a role, turning each shot into a mix of skill and luck. The physics feel satisfying, rewarding both clever angles and all-out chaos. Levels are simple but thoughtfully crafted. One moment you’re firing from a calm harbor, the next you’re battling through a raging storm. New ship types and obstacles keep things fresh, all presented in a quirky yet charming pixel art style.
Caribbean Crashers has only 30 reviews on Steam, but with a 96% positive rating, it’s something of a hidden gem. There are no professional reviews or a Metacritic score, and the main criticism from players is the short playtime – many say they finished it in just 5 to 20 minutes. Still, that’s easy to overlook given its usual price of just $2. Even better, the game is currently free on Steam until July 17 at 1 p.m. ET.
