Camp Snap unveils colorful retro camcorder for $149

The Camp Snap CS-8 ($235 on Amazon) from 2025 is getting a smaller, more colorful sibling in the CS-8 Mini, whose body is about half the size and is intended to be particularly well suited to children's hands. The design is certainly charming, as Camp Snap uses a white plastic body with colorful accents, modeled after a classic Super 8 camcorder.
The remaining storage and battery charge are indicated by two needles on the side of the body rather than a display. The aspect ratio of recorded videos and the five built-in vintage filters can be selected using rotary dials, with support for the most common formats, from 9:16 portrait videos for TikTok to square clips and 16:9 landscape videos. The 8x digital zoom can be controlled using two buttons, though it is likely to affect quality.
The camera comes fully charged and with a memory card, so it can be used straight out of the box. A built-in microphone records audio. With no display or smartphone app, videos must be transferred to a computer or smartphone via USB-C or a card reader before they can be viewed. Expectations for video quality should be kept in check, as the manufacturer provides no information on resolution or frame rate, while the 3.19 mm lens points to a positively tiny sensor.
Pricing and availability
The Camp Snap CS-8 Mini camcorder is available now for $149.95 from the manufacturer's online store in a choice of green, orange, pink or blue. A 4 GB memory card is included. Shipping is free. However, Camp Snap warns that stock is limited, so anyone who needs the camera by Christmas should order as soon as possible.
