Brand-new compact camera launches with 6x zoom in 126g body

Yashica has already launched several affordable compact cameras over the past few months, mostly with rather mixed specifications. At around $168, the new Yashica Crew is not quite as affordable as some of the older models, but it is supposed to offer a slightly more well-rounded feature set.
The camera's body is just 25.7 millimeters thick and weighs 126 grams. The back is dominated by a 3-inch touchscreen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The display is mounted on a hinge that allows it to flip upward by 180 degrees, making it easy to take selfies with the camera. However, the lens is not particularly wide-angle, as Yashica advertises a 35 mm-equivalent focal length of 31 – 183 mm, or just under 6x optical zoom.
The maximum aperture is a modest f/3.1 – 6.4, despite the tiny 1/3.06-inch sensor. The sensor has a native resolution of 13 megapixels, with upscaling allowing photos to be saved at a nominal resolution of up to 36 MP. 4K videos can also be recorded, but Yashica provides no details on frame rate or bit rate. The 700 mAh battery can be charged directly in the camera via USB-C, but can also be replaced. Instead of a xenon flash, Yashica apparently only uses an LED.
Pricing and availability
The Yashica Crew is now available for around $168 in the manufacturer's online store in either silver or black. Shipping is expected to begin toward the end of October. The price excludes shipping costs, import VAT and customs duties, and orders are shipped from Hong Kong.
