Courtesy of numerous leaks and rumors, the Intel Raptor Lake mobile CPUs are shaping up to be beastly performers. The upcoming Core i9-13980HX has now stopped by Geekbench resulting in valid single and multi-core benchmark entries. As expected, the numbers posted by the chip are seriously impressive, to say the least.

CES 2023 is just around the corner with the promise of new processors, GPUs, and notebooks. Intel is also expected to formally announce its mobile Raptor Lake CPUs in January 2023. As such, we’ve been hearing more and more about the performance profile of Raptor Lake mobile chips. For instance, we recently reported on the unreleased Core i9-13900HX’s Core i9-12900K-beating Geekbench run. Now, the Core i9-13980HX has also made an appearance on Geekbench with stellar performance.

The Core i9-13980HX featured here was running inside an ASUS ROG Strix laptop with model number “G814JZ_G814JZ_00028449A” and was paired with 32 GB of unspecified RAM. The chip had a base and boost frequency of 2.39 GHz and 5.38 GHz respectively. With such a configuration, the Core i9-13980HX scored 2,139 (single-core) and 21,303 (multi-core) points in Geekbench 5.4.

Based on the leaked Geekbench scores of the Core i9-13900HX, the Core i9-13980HX appears to be 5% faster in single-core and close to 2% ahead in multi-core workloads. The mentionable single-core lead here is likely the result of increased clock speeds, while the practically non-existent multi-core bump is also easily explainable, as both chips share the same 24-core/32-thread configuration.

Moving on, the Core i9-13980HX is also considerably faster than the Alder Lake desktop flagship, the Core i9-12900K in both single-core and multi-core workloads which should give you an idea about Raptor Lake mobile CPU's final performance. Based on our average Geekbench scores for the Core i9-12900K, the Core i9-13980HX comes out roughly 7% and 20% ahead of the Core i9-12900K in single-threaded and multi-threaded tests.

Unsurprisingly, the Core i9-13980HX beats the 12th gen Core i9-12900HX quite comfortably with a single-core delta of 12% and a multi-core delta of 31%.

It bears repeating that Intel has yet to officially reveal the Raptor Lake mobile CPUs. So until we have final performance figures of retail hardware, take these results with a grain of salt.
