The Q20 is a return to the format that first made BlackBerry popular - a physical keyboard and a trackpad, while the Z3 is a budget touchscreen device

BlackBerry may be having a hard time these days, but the Canadian company is still holding on and even looks to be pushing forward with the announcement of two new smartphones – the Q20 and the Z3.

The Z30 was not the answer to BlackBerry's problems. The Handset didn't bring in many new customers and wasn't popular with existing clients who swear by BB's keyboards. The Q20 on the other hand looks to have been made with the company's fans in mind. It features a 3.5-inch touchscreen, hardware buttons, a classic BlackBerry keyboard, a trackpad, and the BB10 OS. A return to its roots may not be what BB needs to win over new customers en masse, but at least it should help slow the bleed of people switching to Android or iOS.

The Z3 is a new budget handset. It features a 5-inch touchscreen and BB OS 10.2.1, but will only support 3G data. A cheaper device with BlackBerry's improved data protection could certainly find its share of buyers these days.

The BlackBerry Q20 is expected to launch in the second half of 2014. Prices have not yet been announced.

The BlackBerry Z3 will be exclusive to Indonesia and should be available in April for about US$200. Rumors also point to a 4G version that could roll out to other regions sometime in the future.
