Bambu Lab’s new firmware update for the X1 series of FDM 3D printers includes its motor noise cancelling feature, which was first seen in the A1 mini. After an initial 10-15 minute calibration, the system cuts out certain frequencies from the motor’s operation. The upgrade also includes improved UI structure and responsiveness. The P1 series will also be getting motor noise cancelling soon.

Bambu Lab’s recently launched A1 Mini desktop FDM printer debuted its unique motor noise cancelling feature, which can make the 3D printing process noticeably quieter. Now, it has a released a firmware update for the X1 series which brings the same feature to the higher-end printers.

Motor noise cancellation requires a 10-15 minute calibration where the printer listens for noisy motor frequencies, which it then learns to cut out from normal operation. This only reduces the noise generated by the main motors for moving the print-head; noise from cooling fans, bearings and the purge wiping mechanism remains unaffected. On the other hand, Bambu Lab does claim that the feature also reduces overall vibration which should improve external wall quality.

The same firmware upgrade also brings a number of other enhancements to the X1 and X1-C printers, namely “improved screen interface latency, UI menu structure and enhanced third-party filament support (in conjunction with Bambu Studio V 1.8.1 and up)”. Responding to a comment on their announcement post on X (fka Twitter), the company says that motor noise cancellation is also coming to the P1 series very soon.

The complete list of features are detailed in the Bambu Lab X1 Series firmware release notes. The Bambu Lab X1 series and A1 mini are available on the company’s online store. You can also check out other well-reviewed FDM printers like the AnkerMake M5 and the Creality K1, or explore SLA printing with the Elegoo Saturn 2, all available on Amazon.
