85% ASUS ZenBook 14 UX434 review: Lots of bang for your buck
Source: Hardware Zone English Archive.org version
If you want an ultraportable notebook of this size, you’d be hard-pressed to find another that offers anywhere as much value as the ZenBook 14 UX434. In short, for most people looking to get a thin 13 to 14-inch notebook, this is the family of notebooks to start your search.

Crucially, it gets a lot of the fundamentals right. The display is good, the keyboard and trackpad are sensible and pleasant to use, it’s compact and not too heavy, and its performance is exemplary. It offers a good selection of ports but it’s a real pity that it’s USB-C port does not support charging nor Thunderbolt 3.

Model:

One of the highest priorities for any ZenBook has to be its focus on user comfort, and the Asus ZenBook 14 UX434FLC A5131R has definitely taken it to a completely new level. The ZenBook 14 features an exclusive ErgoLift hinge, which is basically an engineering masterpiece that has been especially designed to automatically tilt the keyboard to the most comfortable typing position for the user. However, the good news does not stop there, because such a unique tilting capability improves the overall cooling and audio performance of the ZenBook 14. This product has won hearts in the market due to its overall performance and its worth for the price. As far as the display is concerned, the Asus ZenBook 14 comes with a 14-inch display, which means users get a larger display and a higher resolution. The details are definitely bigger for the user's viewing pleasure. This model has been designed in such a way to allow more screen area in less physical space by utilizing NanoEdge design with slimmer bezels on all four sides of the ZenBook. With such a setting, it definitely makes any visual treat far more immersive with less distraction for the eyes. In addition, the wide-view technology caters for clearer images even when being viewed from extreme angles. This obviously provides an extensively premium user experience while using the ZenBook 14.

Apart from that, the ScreenPad 2.0 touchpad includes an interactive secondary touchscreen that enhances productivity as a whole while giving the user endless possibilities to work with it. This smartphone-like interface opens the possibility for users to easily manage tasks and create a personalized seamless multitasking workflow. This is definitely a point that has to be noted by most workaholics out there, as the ZenBook 14 has all it takes to be the best pal ever with its functionality, whether in personal or professional life. The Zen-inspired spun-metal finish on the lid is just to show that, like all the other ZenBook variants, the Asus ZenBook 14 has obviously incorporated the traditional ZenBook style without fail. In terms of performance, this model should not be disregarded for its compact size, as it does not in any way sacrifice performance for size. The ZenBook 14 has been built in such a way that it delivers all the raw power needed by the user for effortless, on-the-go computing and multitasking irrespective of the situation and circumstance. Despite having a good choice of ports, the ZenBook 14 has a slight drawback, as it excludes the ability of the USB-C port to support charging and Thunderbolt 3. Without Thunderbolt 3, users are prevented from connecting to a more powerful external GPU, which might not be good news for some of the gaming fans out there. However, the ZenBook 14 still carries a lot of advantages in its pocket that can not be missed for the price it comes at.

NVIDIA GeForce MX250: Successor of the MX150 and still based on the same Pascal GP108 chip (similar to the desktop GT 1030) but with higher clock speeds. Available in two versions, a normal 25 Watt version and a low power version with 10 Watt TDP and reduced performance. The 25 Watt version e.g. offers a 21% higher boost clock than the old MX150 leading to a 5% performance gain.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

i7-10510U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced on 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.8 and 4.9 GHz (all 4 cores 4.3 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports DDR4-2666 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default).» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
