Buyers are likely to either love the Asus Transformer Mini T102HA or be disappointed in it. Its highs and lows are marked. Don’t expect the quality of the Surface Pro 4 for less than half the price. While build isn’t dramatically reduced, general performance is. It’s the same old issue with Windows 10 laptops that have Atom processors, making the Asus Transformer Mini T102HA much slower than a Chromebook or Android hybrid. It’s the price of Windows 10 flexibility. However, if you can accept the slower feel, common to everything that runs Windows 10 using an Atom CPU, then the T102HA is a handy little machine. Battery life is excellent, the keyboard solid once you become accustomed to its smaller size and the stylus a fun extra.

The Transformer Mini is an excellent 10.1-inch tablet with an optional attachable keyboard. When viewed that way, it’s certainly an attractive product. If you view it as a laptop replacement, like some of the competition is going for, you may be disappointed. The Transformer Mini is great for a briefcase or a purse – a portable tablet with good performance, good battery life, and an underwhelming keyboard.

It’s not a bad choice, but you’ll be frustrated by how slow it is. The keyboard was particularly disappointing.

So, where does that leave your buying decision? It depends on how much you value tablet functionality. Remember, using the T102HA with its keyboard in your lap isn’t all that practical; the Transformer Book T100HA or Lenovo Ideapad Miix 310, with their solid keyboard bases (or a traditional laptop) are much better suited to that. If you plan to make use of the tablet more than anything, the T102HA is easier to recommend. The T102HA model with 64GB of storage is just $50 more than the Lenovo with the same amount of storage, yet has double the RAM and includes the stylus.

That all adds up to a lot of frustration for not a lot of payoff. I love a bargain as much as the next guy, but this one just has too many strings attached.

The fact remains, however, that the Atom chip powering the Mini will suffice for everyday tasks, and offer excellent battery life on top of it. Just keep your work on a desk, as the weak hinge makes lap work problematic. If all that works for you, congratulations! You just saved yourself a bunch of dough.

The device has a portable design and at £449 it's good value, especially when you consider that the pen and keyboard cover are part of the package. The 11-plus hour battery life also makes it one of the longest-lasting devices around, and means it will easily survive a long-haul flight or school day.

While it's no speed demon, the Asus Transformer Mini (T102HA-D4-GR) is an inexpensive alternative to the Microsoft Surface Pro tablets, considering that you get a keyboard cover without having to shell out an additional $129 for it. The T102HA might cost more than the Transformer Book T100HA, but you also get almost 4 more hours of battery life, better wireless connectivity, and a stylus.

The Asus Transformer Mini T102HA is a lightweight 2-in-1 with a bright screen and long battery life, but its cramped keyboard makes it tough to use.

If a person cares more about portability, compact size and low price than pure performance, a computer like ASUS T102HA-D4-GR should be money well spent. You need not worry about buying tablet because it’s already included here, but keep in mind the performance isn’t top notch – everyday computing is good, power user software or god forbid games are not. If you accept this division, going for the ASUS is worth it.

The Asus Transformer Mini T102HA-D4-GR is a great 10.1-inch 2-in-1 secondary computer to have around, serving as both a tablet and a miniature Windows 10 laptop with a detachable keyboard. Not only is it highly portable, but it is also affordable. Hence it is an ideal alternative to Microsoft’s discontinued Surface 3. This compact hybrid boasts a fairly simple design. It has a magnesium-aluminium alloy and glass body, which feels more premium than plastic-clad tablets. The Transformer Mini measures 8.2 x 259 x 170 mm (H x W x D), making it easy to be stowed away in a small bag. It weighs 530 g alone and 790 g with the keyboard cover connected. The Transformer Mini has an adjustable kickstand similar to the one on the Microsoft Surface that swings out from the back panel, and can stop at a wide range of angles, from straight up to an almost horizontal lean.
Moving to the front of the tablet, the 10.1-inch touch screen is bordered by a thick, black bezel. The screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels is brighter than its competitors with a brightness of 400 nits and it covers 92.8 % of the sRGB color gamut, producing highly vivid and bright colors. The aspect ratio is 16:10, which means that 720p and 1080p videos will have to be scaled down and letterboxed. The stereo speakers on the sides of the tablet body are loud and clear, and can fill a medium-size room with music or movie audio. The magnetic keyboard seamlessly attaches to the bottom of the tablet. The touchpad has a size of 8.64 x 4.32 cm (3.4 x 1.7 inch) and does its job well. Asus also includes its stylus, the Asus Pen, with the Transformer Mini. The aluminum stylus is about the same size as a regular pen and is pressure sensitive, allowing lines to be drawn with varied thicknesses in apps that support the functionality. The stylus has two buttons: one for an eraser, and one to serve as a right click.
A main difference between the Transformer Mini and its competitors is that Asus put a circular fingerprint reader (which resembles Apple's Touch ID on the iPhone or iPad) on the back of the tablet, mainly for logging in with Windows Hello. Though a nice feature, it’s location on the back of the tablet makes it inconvenient to use. Connectivity options are great for this price range, the left side of the tablet is a headphone jack, a USB 3.0 port, a micro HDMI output and a micro-USB port. On top of the tablet is a lone slot for a microSD card. The Transformer Mini comes with a quad-core Intel Cherry Trail processor with integrated Intel HD Graphics 400. In addition, it features 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of eMMC flash storage, which give the tablet a boost in multitasking and system performance. Meanwhile, the tablet’s polymer battery has an exceptional battery life. Asus claims that it is able to last up to 11 hours of movie playback.

This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.

70.36%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
