The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (FA507, 2023) is a device that can impress gamers and power users. It boasts a strong chassis with a typical gamer-ish design which isn’t too intrusive. The lid can be opened with a single hand which is always appreciated. The backlit keyboard is quiet during usage and the touchpad is very smooth.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 is a great laptop. As well as being capable of running today’s AAA games at decent quality, it has enough all-round strengths to make it a good choice for most buyers. Gaming pros will probably want something fancier (but then again probably aren’t too focused on the budget) and video editors and animators will want to look at more powerful machines, but most users will find a lot to love in the ASUS TUF Gaming A15’s subtly mecha-inspired frame.

The TUF Gaming A15 isn’t the fastest 15in gaming laptop money can buy, and its Ryzen CPU isn’t going to break any performance records either – but considering the asking price, you’re getting a serious amount of bang for very little buck. It plays even newer titles very well at 1080p, and Nvidia’s DLSS tech should guarantee it copes with upcoming releases too. Elsewhere you get a decent enough display, all-day battery life (if you stick to the Windows desktop, that is), and a healthy number of ports. ‘Military standard’ toughness ratings aside, it should still be better equipped for life on the road than rival laptops, too. Unless your budget stretches much, much further, you won’t see a huge performance uplift by shopping elsewhere. Ultimately, it’s hard to argue with the sheer value on offer here.

Alongside that better value the A15 delivers great 1080p and eSports power, superb battery life, a screen that’s good enough for indoor, smooth gaming and a decent selection of ports inside a relatively manageable chassis. The lack of future-proofed connectivity, screen brightness and a genuinely great keyboard reign the A15’s ambition in, and the AMD processor is fine – but Intel remains better in many scenarios. At these prices, though, the A15 glosses over its faults. It’s a competent, reasonably fast gaming laptop with no huge flaws, so it’s ideal if you want solid gaming power without spending silly money.

It’s taken less time than I feared for a desirable and affordable RTX 40-series gaming laptop to materialise, but the Asus TUF A15 is very much both of those things. While its Ryzen 7 CPU looks a little gutless on paper, unless you plan on running very specific CPU-intensive software you really won’t notice it when push comes to shove. On the flip side, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU ensures gaming performance is very impressive and considerably better than the old RTX 3060, and that’s before you factor in the benefits of DLSS 3. Add to that the ever-appealing TUF design and build quality, decent display and solid sound system and for the price you can’t really ask for more.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
