Reviews for the Asus ROG Flow X16 GV601RW-M5082W
1,100 nits of real HDR gaming for the first time thanks to mini-LED in a laptop: Asus' ROG Flow X16 is a 16-inch convertible that remains permanently cool despite its compact design and 140 watts of power, thus performing better than other upper-class notebooks while also remaining quieter.

Asus has taken risks with the ROG Flow X16, and in several departments those have paid off. The ROG Flow X16's sturdy, good-looking exterior works well as a laptop and as a tented screen. Switch to tablet mode and it's usable for creative work and even as a reading and web-browsing device if you can stomach its size. The X16's RTX 3070 Ti graphics core is a solid performer 2560 x 1600, and the Mini LED display delivers incredible SDR and HDR performance that makes games and movies pop from the panel. This Asus ROG laptop suffers a little when it comes to value. Its $2,499 price isn't terrible, but if you're happy to eschew the convertible design and Mini LED display you'll find this speed for around $2,000 elsewhere. You'll even find RTX 3080 Ti laptops at less than $2,750. The Asus also comes with an RTX 3060, but it's still pretty pricey considering its internals. The future also undermines the X16. If you're willing to wait a few months, the Flow's 2023 version will arrive with RTX 4070 graphics cores and faster Intel processors. Razer is also deploying 15.6" and 16" laptops with updated internals. All those rigs will probably be more expensive than the $2,500 ROG Flow X16, but you'll get more bang for your buck. No matter which year's vintage you choose, the Asus ROG Flow X16 delivers a stunning screen, impressive form factor and good gaming performance, you'll just need to decide if you're prefer that over the improved connectivity and even better speeds that more conventional devices offer.

The Asus ROG Flow X16 is a versatile, impressive laptop with ample gaming power, a top-notch display and impressive keyboard and speaker quality. But you’ll get more performance from traditional laptops, connectivity could be better, and this notebook gets a bit too hot.

I am usually not a fan of slim and lightweight gaming laptops for the sole reason – they compromise on performance a lot. The Asus ROG Flow X16 changes that conception – it is brilliantly fast and capable, all while flaunting that lean chassis. Yes, it runs hot all the time but the gains are massive in areas that matter. In fact, I doubt if most creators and gamers will ever need to invest in the ROG XG Mobile unit, if you pick up the top-end variant with RTX 3070Ti and Ryzen 9 processor. At Rs. 2.8 lakhs, the Asus ROG Flow X16 in its top trim is eye watering expensive. For this price, you can get several conventional gaming laptops with RTX 3080 GPU from Asus and Acer. Creators can even consider the Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch with the M1 Pro chip, where the raw performance is simply unbridled. However, none of these laptops are as versatile as the ROG Flow X16, which offers a Mini LED display, top-notch performance, a convertible laptop form factor, and the benefit of the Windows ecosystem. If you are spending between ₹2-3 lakhs, this ROG Flow X16 is worth checking out.

The Asus ROG Flow X16 has a slick, impressive design that enables loads of gaming versatility. The hybrid form factor is underpinned with powerful internals, a great keyboard, and great screen and speaker quality. There’s no denying the Flow’s quality, but it’s not perfect: the display could be a bit better, the chassis could be cooler and quieter and connectivity could be improved. And you’ll certainly get more gaming power if you spend similar cash on a conventional laptop. This does mean that the Asus ROG Flow X16 occupies a luxurious niche in the laptop market and that most people would get more value elsewhere. But if you do want a versatile, slick gaming hybrid, this should be at the top of your list.

At its price point, the Flow X16 goes up against laptops from ASUS’ own stable of products like the aforementioned Strix Scar 15, and others like MSI’s GE76 Raider (review). However, the unique MiniLED screen, the relatively thin form factor without compromising on performance, incredible speakers and a good battery backup, all make the ROG Flow X16 the laptop to beat this year.

As far as I can tell at this time, the Flow X16 is a potentially popular addition to the ROG lineup. Its main selling points are the format, the screen options, the powerful specs for the class, and the unique thermal module that should allow for solid performance with lower fan noise levels than other designs. However, the overall performance/thermals/noise-levels trifecta is going to play a crucial role in determining the overall worth of this series in comparison to the clamshell Zephyrus models, alongside pricing and availability. I’m looking forward to spending more time with this for the review, and sharing my findings with you. For now, that’s about it for this short first look at the 2022 Asus ROG FLow X16 GV601 series. Let me hear your impressions and feedback on this lineup down below, in the comments section.

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.
