Asus has taken risks with the ROG Flow X16, and in several departments those have paid off. The ROG Flow X16's sturdy, good-looking exterior works well as a laptop and as a tented screen. Switch to tablet mode and it's usable for creative work and even as a reading and web-browsing device if you can stomach its size. The X16's RTX 3070 Ti graphics core is a solid performer 2560 x 1600, and the Mini LED display delivers incredible SDR and HDR performance that makes games and movies pop from the panel. Its $2,499 price isn't terrible, but if you're happy to eschew the convertible design and Mini LED display you'll find this speed for around $2,000 elsewhere. If you're looking for a basic mainstream gaming laptop with an Nvidia 3060 card, this ain't it. If you like the idea of a gaming hybrid that can fold into a kiosk mode and work with a gamepad, that's something almost no other gaming laptop can do. If you're especially interested in the XG Mobile as an add-on device that can work across different types of Asus computers, the X16 is a key part of that ecosystem and one of only a handful of ways to get that kind of modular performance.

Aside from that, the ROG Flow X16 just impresses. The laptop has a beautiful display, a great combination of power and portability, and a design that other laptops would drool for. Again, currently, I’d nominate the ASUS ROG Flow X16 as my laptop of the year so far. At its price point of PHP 164,995, I’d say it eakes out every single peso you’d spend on this laptop, it’s that good. So if you’re looking for a no compromise, media, creation, gaming, and portable laptop, the ASUS ROG Flow X16 should be at the top of your list.

Instead, what makes this series my favorite all-purpose ultraportable of this generation is the balance of uncompromised features, excellent performance, fair temperatures for this class, and quiet fan noise levels that are offered here on the Balanced mode, which no other ultraportable that I've tested can match. These don't come cheap, though, so expect to pay a premium for the X16s over the regular clamshell Zephyrus ultraportables.

As it turns out, convertibles can make for very good gaming laptops. Who would have thought? Well, obviously ASUS, because they made this gorgeous, aggressive, yet elegant piece of hardware. Its processor and graphics card work as intended, providing a ton of performance. Currently, there is no title on the planet that won’t work at max settings and native resolution on this laptop’s maxed-out configuration. As it turns out, convertibles can make for very good gaming laptops. Who would have thought? Well, obviously ASUS, because they made this gorgeous, aggressive, yet elegant piece of hardware. Its processor and graphics card work as intended, providing a ton of performance. Currently, there is no title on the planet that won’t work at max settings and native resolution on this laptop’s maxed-out configuration. The ROG Flow X16 remains one of the best portable all-purpose laptops that you can buy today, and pretty much without a direct-tier alternative even in 2023. The 2-in-1 format with a touch display, the awesome mini LED panel, and the balanced performance/cooling design are its primary differentiators over the other options out there. But the solid build quality and excellent ergonomics, the uncompromised IO, the punchy speakers, the overall performance capabilities, and even the fair battery life are also strong selling points for this series. At the same time, though, this Flow demands a premium over the clamshell Asus ROG Zephyrus lineups, and is only available with mid-tier GPU specs. That means the top-specced 2023 generation is pretty much on par in gaming and GPU capabilities with the top-tier 2022 model, and that might not suffice for some of you. Hence, a 4080 configuration would have addressed this part. But thing is, if performance is what you’re primarily after, you’re most likely better off with something else anyway.

R7 6800HS: Mobile Octa-Core APU using Zen 3+ cores clocked at 3.2 to 4.7 GHz and a RDNA2 graphics adapter with 12 CUs clocked at up to 2,200 MHz. The HS variant offers a 10 W reduced TDP and therefore a lower sustained performance than the H version.
Intel Raptor Lake-H:
i9-13900H: Alder Lake based mobile CPU with 6 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 20 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks with up to 5.4 GHz. Compared to the i9-13900HK no easy overclocking supported, but instead full vPro management feature-set.
