70% Asus ExpertBook CX54 review: Get the premium Chromebook Plus experience
Source: It Pro English
Yes. It helps that no other Chromebook comes with a spec that's this advanced, or with a CPU as capable as the Core Ultra 7 155U. Right now that processor and 16GB of RAM might seem overpowered, but as Google bets big on AI it might become a wise investment, giving you more power for on-device AI operations thanks to the more powerful GPU and NPU. However, it counts just as much that this is a fantastically well-rounded Chromebook, with an excellent screen, great ergonomics and decent battery life. Sure, the ExpertBook CX54 is a little expensive, but it's worth it. In fact, right now I'd say it's the best Chromebook that money can buy.

90% ASUS ExpertBook CX54 Chromebook Plus Review: $699 of premium [VIDEO]
Source: Chrome Unboxed English
And that’s the ASUS CX54 Chromebook Plus. It’s not perfect – no Chromebook is – but it does get most of the equation right. If top-notch build quality, rigidity of the chassis, a fantastic screen, incredible typing experience, expansive trackpad, massive port selection and speedy internals sound like your thing, I think $699 is frankly an incredible price for this Chromebook. I have a few hangups, but those are minimal when you consider how good this device is overall; and I think anyone paying this price for an experience this good that gets updates until June of 2034 will be very, very happy with their purchase.

80% Review: The Asus CX54 Chromebook Plus has plenty of power, but not in the battery
Source: Android Police English
Anytime you are looking to buy a premium device, you have to determine your use case. If you want a laptop with an excellent display, great performance, and a solid keyboard, the Asus CX54 Chromebook Plus is well worth the investment. But if you need a laptop that lasts an entire work or school day, the CX54 may not make a ton of sense. Using this Chromebook on my lap also caused some issues, but if you typically use your laptop on a hard surface, it won't matter much. As it stands, the $700 Asus CX54 Chromebook Plus does a lot right. It’s well-built and is easy to travel with thanks to its small size. It also offers plenty of ports, allowing you to connect various devices or external monitors with ease. Add that to the impressive performance and display, and Asus has a winner on its hands, as long as you can handle the short battery life.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Graphics 4-Core: Integrated graphics card based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides 4 Xe cores (64 Xe vector engines) and 4 ray tracing units.

Intel Meteor Lake-U:

Ultra 7 155U: A mid-range Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core processors; it has 12 cores (2 + 8 + 2) and 14 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 2, run at up to 4.8 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.8 GHz. The 4-core Intel Arc Graphics, just out of the oven, serves as the integrated graphics adapter - this runs at up to 1.95 GHz - and there is a bevy of other brand-new technologies on offer as well including the integrated AI Boost NPU with two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. This laptop processor's Base power consumption is 15 W, with 57 W being its maximum Intel-recommended Turbo power consumption.

Ultra 5 125U: A lower mid-range Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core processors; it has 12 cores (2 + 8 + 2) and 14 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 2, run at up to 4.3 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.6 GHz. The 4-core Intel Arc Graphics, just out of the oven, serves as the integrated graphics adapter - this runs at up to 1.85 GHz - and there is a bevy of other brand-new technologies on offer as well including the integrated AI Boost NPU with two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. This laptop processor's Base power consumption is 15 W, with 57 W being its maximum Intel-recommended Turbo power consumption.

Ultra 5 115U: A lower-end Meteor Lake chip that debuted some time in 2024. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has 8 cores (2 + 4 + 2) and 10 threads at its disposal. Due to its slightly lower clock speeds and a lower number of E-cores, the 115U should be 10% to 15% slower than the 125U in multi-threaded tasks. The 4-core Arc Graphics, in the meantime, should be just a little slower than the aging 96 EU Iris Xe GPU.

14.00:

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
