Arduino launches Matter Discovery Bundle to simplify smart home and IoT development

After announcing the Arduino Nesso N1 IoT development kit and Arduino UNO Q development platform, Arduino has introduced a new development kit designed to simplify Matter-based smart home development.
The kit is called the Arduino Matter Discovery Bundle, and it's based around the Nano Matter board, a Nano Connector Carrier with Qwiic expansion support, and multiple Modulino sensor and actuator nodes, such as Latch Relay, Distance, and Thermo nodes for building and testing Matter-enabled projects.
The company also talks about a dedicated seven-module curriculum that is available to guide users from initial setup to Matter certification. By default, the Nano Matter can be used as a standalone controller, but one can use the included Qwiic-compatible carrier for solderless development.
On the software side, the development bundle runs the Matter-over-Thread stack and can communicate with existing smart home hubs via the Arduino Matter library. The company has also unveiled its new specialized learning modules that run on the Arduino Cloud platform. Its price is confirmed at the Arduino Store, and availability starts today.
It is a Thread-based kit. This means it requires a Matter-over-Thread border router (like an Apple TV 4K, HomePod, or specialized Hub) to actually connect to a smart home network. A buyer without a border router won't be able to use the "smart" features out of the box.
The Arduino Matter Discovery Bundle is available on Arduino's store for $61.04.
