Archos announces the GamePad 2

The second generation Android tablet made for gamers will become available in the United States at the end of the year for $199.99.

Earlier today, Archos announced the second generation of its GamePad handheld. The GamePad 2 Android tablet now features a faster processor, a 7-inch IPS display and comes with Archos' proprietary Game Mapping Tool app.

The high performance gaming tablet Archos GamePad 2 features the following specs:

  • Processor: quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9 with Mali 400-MP4 graphics
  • Memory/Storage: 2 GB RAM; 8/16 GB and microSD support up to 64 GB
  • Display: 7-inch IPS touchscreen with 1,280X800 pixels
  • Connectivity: micro USB, dual band WiFi, Bluetooth, mini HDMI
  • Gaming controls: two thumbsticks, directional pad, 10 buttons
  • Operating system: Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • Weight/Dimensions: 0.88 pounds; 7.9X6.0X0.39 inches

In addition to the above, the Archos GamePad 2 also features a front facing webcam and comes with two full games preloaded - Gameloft's Asphalt 8 Airborne and Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour.

To ease the task of finding good games compatible with the GamePad 2, Archos designed the GameZone application. "Curating the 1 million apps and games in the Google Play Store, the Game Zone shows off the best ARCHOS GamePad 2 compatible games."

The new handheld will arrive in the United States at the end of the year for $199.99 and on www.Archos.com at the end of this month, priced at €179.99 (~$243).
