Anbernic RG DS gets huge update with single-screen mode and performance upgrades

The Anbernic RG DS ($129 on Amazon) may look very similar to the Nintendo DS Lite, but the retro handheld faced considerable criticism for software issues at launch. Since then, Anbernic has already made improvements through several updates, and now the Linux-based operating system is being updated to version 1.1.
The update primarily introduces version 1.02 of the NNDDSS emulator, which is intended to deliver both higher gaming performance and lower power consumption when running titles originally developed for the Nintendo DS. After the update, PSP games played via RetroArch can optionally be rendered using Vulkan, which is expected to result in a more stable, higher frame rate in many games.
Perhaps the most exciting new feature is the so-called single-screen mode. Once enabled in the system settings, the second display is simply switched off when playing a game that only requires one display, such as a title developed for the PSP or the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. This is intended not only to save power and thus extend battery life, but also to reduce distractions.
Anbernic is distributing the update via Google Drive. Only the version for 16 GB microSD memory cards is publicly available. Anyone using an Anbernic RG DS with a 64 GB microSD card for the operating system must contact Anbernic customer service instead. Installing the update requires a PC with a microSD card reader.
