The Vivo V20 (2020) series launched not long ago with a vanilla variant rocking a Snapdragon 720G processor. A new potential phone from this OEM has been spotted on Geekbench with an older and less powerful SoC. Nevertheless, it is thought to be the V20's immediate successor.

A device called the "vivo v2040" has surfaced on Geekbench 5 with 8GB of RAM and the Qualcomm "sm6150" platform. This identifier is associated with the Snapdragon 675, and is rumored to power the V20 (2021) in this case. However, should that be the case, it would be a slightly strange choice given other devices by this name.

There is also now a V20 (2020) that debuted with the Snapdragon 720G, a 2.3GHz octa-core processor whereas the 675 is 2.0GHz. This older silicon is also based on an 11 nanometer (nm) architecture, whereas the 720G has one of 8nm.

Nevertheless, the rumor mill now asserts that the "V2040" is also an upcoming member of the V20 series. Therefore, it may be a refresh of some kind. Then again, it may have one form of edge on the 2020 line-up: Android 11 out of the box.

Furthermore, this may come in the form of Vivo's new and elaborate skin, OriginOS. This detail might work out in the putative V20's favor on its (heretofore unspecified) launch date.
