Age of Empires Mobile up for pre-registration on Android and iOS
Recently, it was discovered that Tencent planned to bring Elden Ring to smartphones. It won't be the only massively popular PC franchise to hit the platform, though. Timi Studio has announced its plans to bring the iconic Age of Empires franchise to mobile. Unfortunately, its gameplay trailer reveals little in the way of actual gameplay, but its official website and Play Store/App Store listings give us a better idea.
Age of Empires mobile will be playable sometime in 2024, with an open beta to kick things off before launch. You can pre-register for it on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store to receive in-game rewards. More pre-registrations unlock additional rewards such as in-game resources (wood, gold, stone, food copper and something called Empire Coins), heroes and a building/training/research speed-up boost for one hour.
The last part hints Age of Empires mobile will deviate from its PC counterparts by imposing artificially long build/research time for their in-game structures. Given it is a mobile game, microtransactions are inevitable and one can only hope Age of Empires doesn't go the Clash of Clans route as it would trivialize the legendary franchise.
